Mig’s Dogs is a Brockton-based business that is all about community, togetherness, and of course, delicious hot dogs! Look for Mig’s Dogs at this year’s Brockton Farmers Market.

Jose Miguel “Mig” Carasquillo was a chef at Legal Sea Foods for 25 years. When the Covid pandemic started he was faced with uncertainty regarding his career. Jose and his wife of 37 years, Mitzi, did a career pivot and decided to purchase a hot dog cart to strike out on their own during that difficult time. Mitzi states, “Mig’s Dogs was formed from not knowing when our next paycheck was coming.” A hot dog cart was the perfect remedy for the turbulence of the pandemic. As patrons were either unable to or uncomfortable eating indoors, Mig’s Dogs was the solution for this. With a hot dog cart, they brought people together while maintaining a safe distance and outdoor eating. “People were scared to be sitting inside so outside worked for us,” Mitzi relates.

Mig’s Dogs is in operation for its fourth season. Look for their cart at events all over the region. Among the locations they will be at this summer are the Brockton Farmers Market and the Ashmont Farmers Market in Dorchester. No event is too big or too small for Mig’s Dog’s. Mig and Mitzi laugh while relating all the many varied types of events they’ve done, “We go everywhere! Dog events, kid events, sports events, non-profit events, catering events! We travel all over the whole state, no area is too far.” Speaking of catering, in addition to selling their dogs, they also run a catering business. With the motto, “Let me cater to you,” Mig’s Dogs has catered events such as weddings, cookouts, award ceremonies, and graduation parties. Even though Mig’s Dogs is based out of Brockton, it is only recently that they have been able to set up shop there, as Brockton has finally allowed food trucks beginning last year.

Mig’s not only prides itself in serving the highest quality Nathan’s hot dogs, but also hot sausage and turkey sausage, as well as a variety of sodas and snack items. Not only do they sell delicious dogs in a fun atmosphere (just check out Mig and Mitzi’s hot dog shirts, shorts, and hats!) but Mig’s Dogs is all about family and togetherness. Mig’s may be operated by the husband-and-wife team, but, as the Carasquillos relate, “It’s truly a family-owned business; we even have had our grandkids work for us.” And more than just their own family, Mig’s Dogs represents family on a greater level. Hot dogs are a food that promotes community. The Carasquillos never tire of seeing the smile on children’s faces as they dig into a Mig’s dog.

Serving nothing but the best dogs in an outdoor setting isn’t just about the food but about the fellowship as well.
