The Fair is Back!

In 1949, Hazel Blanchard started a 4-H crafts club for 7 neighborhood girls. Soon the numbers grew, more projects were added and boys were included.

In March of 1950 the East Middleboro 4-H Community Committee was formed. The Committee now has the honor of being the oldest in the state. Meeting monthly to support 4-H activities, the committee is made up of club leaders, junior leaders, and volunteers.

Today, enrollment is not limited to East Middleboro residents. Any child 5-18 years of age is eligible to join. These days there are several clubs to choose from, including livestock and horse clubs, to gardening, tractors, art, and many more.

The highlight of the year is the East Middleboro 4-H Fair. Local 4-H members gather to showcase what they have accomplished during the year, from showing their animals to displaying their static exhibits. The fair is also a fundraiser, with all proceeds going directly to East Middleboro 4-H activities.

The heart of East Middleboro 4-H is its volunteers. If you would like to become a club leader or fair volunteer, please contact Molly Vollmer at the Plymouth County Extension Office.
