Bringing Families Back to the Table

What’s for dinner? That inevitable question is usually followed by the internal debate: is there time to hurry to the store and prepare a healthy meal or should I just order take-out? Tara Hollander witnessed this daily conundrum when frenzied parents arrived to pick up children from her in-home daycare service, smelled the aroma of her home-cooked dinner, and realized that once again nutrition would be sacrificed for the convenience of dinner on-the-go. The experience of these time-strapped parents sparked the idea for Doorknock Dinner. In 2009 Hollander opened a commercial kitchen that offered well-balanced, home-cooked meals, delivered. Her recently established DKD Market and Bakery, which offers take-out dining, was named Norwell’s 2014 Business of the Year. The food gets rave reviews from all ages.

Keeping the Holidays Local

Avoid the pre-holiday mayhem at the grocery store this year by using our handy Resource lists. Just a click away: our lists provide everything you’ll need to make the holiday season memorable and delicious. Compiled by the South Shore Locavores in conjunction with the Kingston Public Library and edible South Shore & South Coast, these lists not only help to reduce pre-holiday errands, but help also you support local businesses.
