For reflecting their local history, The Black Whale in New Bedford can’t be beat! The Black Whale was created by city locals, and Steve Silverstein took over in 2019 in an effort to further showcase the city’s seafaring history and vibrant fishing industry. Conveniently located at Pier 3, seating offers a rare view of fishing boat activity. Their mission is “to serve fresh, bold, and innovative food that reflects the history of New Bedford and celebrates the New Bedford fishermen, their catch, and their culture.”

The Black Whale accommodates private events for parties of up to 120 people, which can be hosted on their enclosed and heated deck, making it a perfect location any time of the year. The Black Whale’s seafood options are undoubtedly the menu’s highlight. There is a variety of sushi available, including maki, toro, electric eel, and nigiri, in addition to a surf ’n’ turf roll. They also offer lobster and landlubber menu staples such as pasta and steak. The restaurant has an extensive raw bar, complete with cocktail shrimp, littlenecks, crab claws, and local oysters. For lighter fare, The Black Whale has Happy Hour from 2 pm to 4 pm Monday through Thursday, during which they serve oysters and sushi rolls for a buy-one-get-one deal. Other special delights may include popcorn scallops, shrimp scampi flatbread, cod fritters, truffle fries, chicken sliders, and cheesesteak empanadas. The Black Whale offers a unique New Bedford experience featuring high-quality, locally sourced, fresh food and unparalleled hospitality.
