Site Specific Happenings Returns to Haskell Public Gardens with ambrosia/salad
NEW BEDFORD, MA — Site Specific Happenings (SSH), in partnership with The Trustees of Reservations, presents ambrosia/salad, an immersive outdoor exhibition of site-responsive art, sculpture, performance, and interactive installations at the beautiful Allen C. Haskell Public Gardens in New Bedford.
Running August 8 through September 19, 2026, the free exhibition transforms the gardens into an evolving landscape of contemporary art, inviting visitors to explore works inspired by the natural environment and to engage with the space in unexpected ways.
The exhibition opens Saturday, August 8, from 5–8 p.m. with an evening of live performances, participatory art experiences, sound installations, and edible works scattered throughout the gardens. Guests are encouraged to wander the grounds, interact with the artwork, and experience the gardens in a new light. RSVP is required for opening night.
A special community event, Dead Bird Dinner Part II, takes place Saturday, August 15, featuring a participatory pit firing, community potluck dinner, and conversation exploring bird conservation and environmental stewardship through art.
Allen C. Haskell Public Gardens, located at 787 Shawmut Avenue in New Bedford, is home to rare trees, topiary, pollinator gardens, woodland paths, and the Wild Heart Herb House, making it a fitting backdrop for this unique exhibition.
Admission to the exhibition is free.
