This February, it’s time to find out who bakes the best sweet bread in the South Coast with the South Coast Snackdown!

New Bedford Food Tours and Viva Fall River are excited to announce the South Coast Snackdown, the second annual “friendly food fight” among regional bakeries. Last year, Goulart Square Bakery in New Bedford took top billing in the Pasties de Nata Throwdown, with Europa Coffee Shop & Pastries in Fall River coming in second place. This year, the focus is on sweet bread and the entry pool is regional, including all bakeries in South Coast Massachusetts.

The goal of this friendly competition is to help spread awareness of ALL the great bakeries, cafes, and markets in the region and help to generate additional and new business during the slower sales and tourism off-season.  No matter who wins, we ALL win!

A map of all the bakeries that bake their own sweet bread, whether Portuguese massa, or Guatemalan pan dulce, will be available online at www.nbfoodtours.com/snackdown. Sweet bread lovers are invited to visit as many of the 20 bakeries as they can during the month of February, and to vote on their favorite bread.

The Snackdown is free for both bakeries and consumers to take part (other than the cost of the bread.) Consumers can vote for any bakeries that make the delicious bread in the South Coast, which includes the following cities and towns:Acushnet, Berkley, Dartmouth, Fairhaven, Fall River, Freetown, Marion, Mattapoisett, New Bedford, Rochester, Somerset, Swansea, Wareham, and Westport. Voting will be available online at nbfoodtours.com/snackdown starting 12:01 AM on February 1 and closing at 11:59 PM on February 29.
