Food doesn’t have to be fancy to be good. Take quality ingredients, a friendly atmosphere, and a vision inspired by good taste, and you have the foundational components of a new restaurant in Marion called Kate’s Simple Eats. The co-owner of a home decor boutique, Kate Ross heard from her customers that they could use a place where people could stop in and grab a tasty meal without a huge commitment of time or funds.
As someone who loves sharing meals and laughter with friends and family at home, Kate felt inspired to open a restaurant that could recreate that experience for the public, and along the way hired her mom (Nance Ross) and friends to help duplicate that feeling. She designed the restaurant with an open floor plan so it actually feels like you’re in somebody’s home kitchen, with plenty of sunlight and natural wood.
The menu includes tasteful renditions of simple comfort foods that trigger memories of family picnics, like the BBQ chicken wrap, as well as some fun takes on more modern classics, like the “Pear-Brie-Fig” sandwich. She also offers unique salads like the “Eggplant Stack,” daily soup specials, and a damn good cup of coffee. When all you want is a solid meal created with care and served with a smile, head over to Kate’s.
