What is a Seed Library?

A seed library is a community-driven initiative aimed at preserving plant biodiversity and promoting sustainable gardening practices. Essentially, it operates as a repository where members can borrow, exchange, and donate seeds for various plant species for no cost — similar to books in the same library.

By facilitating access to seeds, seed libraries empower individuals to cultivate their own food, fostering food security and resilience within communities. Moreover, they promote genetic diversity in agriculture, which is essential for adapting to environmental changes and mitigating the impacts of climate change.

Additionally, seed libraries encourage education and knowledge sharing about gardening techniques, seed saving, and the importance of preserving genetic resources, thus empowering individuals to become stewards of their local ecosystems.
