Flowers on the counter greet visitors.

Local flowers greet visitors to The Foodsmith in Duxbury.

By Phoebe Swetish.

Laura Raposa opens her bakery every morning at 7:00 am, providing those in the Duxbury area with the option of home-prepared food to start their day. The Foodsmith, located at 17 Standish Street in Duxbury, Massachusetts, is nestled between shops in a classic New England-style building. Laura has created a quite calming interior, with cheerful pastel walls, English memorabilia displayed on shelves, and large windows that let natural light pour in, creating a positive atmosphere even early in the mornings.

Through the glass display window, customers can view what’s been baked that morning by Laura and her workers before the store opened for the day. Those who visit can find an array of scones, (plain and chocolate), coffee cakes, muffins, and bars. A broader breakfast menu that lists various types of breakfast sandwiches for those seeking a savory option is also available. The only product sold that isn’t made in-house is the coffee, Jim’s Organic Coffee, Wareham, a close partner with The Foodsmith.
