Q&A with Haley!

  1. What is Holly Hill Farm?

Holly Hill Farm is a nonprofit organic farm in Cohasset that seeks to provide the community with fresh, healthy produce and to educate people of all ages about conservation and sustainable farming practices. Founders Frank and Jean White started the farm on their property in 1998, but it wasn’t until 2002 that the couple officially established the Friends of Holly Hill Farm nonprofit organization. The farm is owned by three branches of the White family that oversee the farm’s operations, which include various educational activities, programs, and community events that take place on the farm.

  1. What makes Holly Hill Farm unique?

There are so many aspects of Holly Hill Farm that make it truly one-of-a-kind. In addition to being the only working farm in Cohasset, they have continued to meet the stringent requirements to be certified organic by the USDA every year since 2000. The farm is also committed to its goal of helping the planet through its use of regenerative farming practices, which help to increase the soil’s ability to pull and store carbon from the atmosphere, protect the land from erosion, and more.

  1. What can I do at Holly Hill Farm?

Holly Hill Farm is more than just a place to get fresh, organic produce. You can also support many other local businesses (and the environment) by purchasing unique local goods on Saturdays at the farm stand, which is located in their greenhouse. Hours for the farm stand vary seasonally, so be sure to check the website for information about when it will be open. Short on time? You can also order products on the website on Thursdays from 10 am to midnight year-round, then pick your order up at the farm on Saturdays. Products available include produce grown on the farm, coffees and teas, baked goods, cheeses, and so much more.

In keeping with the farm’s educational mission, there is also a wide range of fun programs and events for both children and adults. Both the weekly programs and single-day events feature a variety of nature-based activities designed to teach about numerous topics from survival skills to knowledge about plant and animal life, and even how to make syrup in your backyard.

  1. What are some ways that Holly Hill Farm gives back to the community?

The food that is grown on the farm is just one piece of Holly Hill Farm’s commitment to providing for their community. They also strive to help those who are struggling financially, which is where the Holly Hill Farm SHARES program comes in. This program is designed to provide fresh, healthy food to local families and individuals facing food insecurity or other financial hardships. Holly Hill Farm also wants to make its educational programs and events accessible to as many people as possible, which is why they’ve created a tiered pricing system. This completely voluntary method of pricing allows those who register for programs and events to choose the pricing tier that works best for them. Tier A covers the cost of the program and provides an additional donation to allow Holly Hill Farm to continue with its tiered pricing system. Tier B simply covers the cost of the program, while Tier C is a reduced price for accessibility.
