by Elle Maynard.
Julia Powers. The name may be familiar. A long-time contributor, Julia’s articles have been featured in many issues of edible South Shore & South Coast magazine. Her commitment to our edible community has resulted in many treks to various farms and locations. She has visited with many local farmers—both young and old—who have shared experiences and heartwarming tales of growing vegetables or raising livestock. She’s explored charcuterie, artisanal cheese, lobstering, and beekeeping. She’s interviewed business owners and even toured slaughterhouses. All to ensure that she’d consistently provided thoroughly researched, engaging, and thoughtful commentary on topics ranging from the entertaining to the educational.
In addition to being a writer, Julia is a Board Certified Holistic Health Practitioner and recently completed her Masters in Nutrition from the University of Bridgeport. She’s also a cooking instructor, a recipe developer, and she’s fed a family of five for twenty years. With this list of credentials, she knows why what we eat impacts health and how to incorporate real food into busy lives. Yes, she’s even figured out how to get kids and teens to enjoy eating vegetables!
Most recently, Julia has joined the Center for Integrative Counseling & Wellness, a new practice located on Derby Street in Hingham. As a Nutritional Counselor, Julia combines her education, training, and experience to help clients navigate the sometimes-overwhelming array of food choices. By explaining the effect of certain choices, Julia works closely with clients to develop a nutritional plan aimed to improve overall health and achieve personal goals.
Are we gushing? Perhaps, but Julia’s compassionate nature and sincere interest in advocating for locally-grown food make her a true asset to our community. We wish her well with this new venture! Dedicated followers will be pleased to learn that Julia’s articles will continue to appear regularly in edible SOUTH SHORE & SOUTH COAST.
