This Valentine’s Day why not ditch the candlelit dinner and box of chocolates and surprise your loved one with a boozy brunch instead? Check out this list of SE MA spots serving up delicious breakfasts and morning cocktails.

Strawberry Fair
Hands down one of the best brunch spots on the south shore. Famous for their strawberry jam and cornbread, this combo is just the tip of the iceberg for their impressive menu. You’ll find something for everyone here from the fancier side of things (I’m looking at you crème brûlée french toast and smoked salmon eggs benedict) to the hearty classics this place has got you covered.

True to its name the cocktails are berry delicious. Try the strawberry mimosa or the strawberry Bloody Mary. If you’re celebrating ‘galentines’ and are here with a group, treat yourselves to a Bucket of Bubbles- chilled strawberry juice served with a bottle of Lunette. Thinking of taking the kids with you for your Valentine’s date? They’ll love the kid’s menu and playing ‘I Spy’ finding the many strawberries throughout the restaurant’s decor. Parking can be tricky here as it’s so popular, so grab a spot instead at the shopping plaza across the street. Diner be warned–if you try Strawberry Fair it’ll be hard to find another spot that compares!

Brockton Beer
For the beer lover in your life- treat them to Brockton Beer’s yummy brunch which is now available on Sundays according to this Facebook post. The Tiramisu Waffles are a local favorite and are topped with a delicious coffee stout glaze. They also have a BBC Benny Burger that has a poached egg topped with BBC Bacon Jam and a maple bourbon hollandaise sauce that will make you wonder why you ever wasted your time with regular hollandaise. Get there early and if you’re lucky you can grab one of their Italian-style donuts “bomboloni” before they’re all gone.

It goes without saying that you can pair any of these breakfast items with one of Brockton’s brews. Do yourself a favor and try BBC’s collaboration with Vitamin Sea Brewing – the Together and Drift is a 7.3% New England IPA that is a tropical delight with notes of gooseberries and white grapes.

Stevie G’s
When the restaurant has an entire menu section devoted to boozy coffee and brunch cocktails you know you’ve hit a homerun. At Stevie G’s in Rockland, you’ll find all of the usual breakfast beverages (Bloody Mary, Mimosa, etc.) but they kick it up a notch with their specialty drinks. The Stevie G’s Bees Knees will have you coming back even if just for this drink- this refreshing drink is made with Earl Grey honey syrup, Empress gin, and freshly squeezed lemons. On the warmer side, they have a delectable spiked peanut butter coffee made with chocolate liqueur, peanut butter whiskey, and local coffee and topped with peanut butter cup pieces.

Their breakfast menu also includes an impressive selection of options you won’t find anywhere else–raspberry Danish pancakes, carrot cake french toast,  and eggs benny with candied kielbasa to name a few favorites. It’s no wonder this local spot was recently highlighted by Phantom Gourmet.

Mirbeau
Go fancy and treat yourself to brunch at Plymouth’s Mirbeau. Here French-inspired dishes are served in a dining room filled with elegance and charm. A few notable menu items include: The Charlemagne – a fried egg sandwich taken to the next level with prosciutto, spinach, and brie de Meaux, and their popular savory crepes with ham, swiss, cremini mushrooms, baby spinach, French style creamy scrambled eggs and a delicious hollandaise. Whatever you do, be sure to get an order of their truffle Parmesan potatoes. For a perfect brunch pairing try Mirbeau’s light and refreshing spa punch- a bubbly fusion of cucumber vodka, elderflower, and citrus. Feeling like going the classic mimosa route? Their impressively long champagne list gives you many options to elevate your mimosa experience. This boozy brunch option is classy and will make your special celebration memorable.

Mad Hatter
For some of the best boozy coffee head over to Mad Hatter in Weymouth. All of their fancy coffees are served either hot or cold and topped with whipped cream. Choose from The Nordic – peppermint schnapps and white crème de cocoa, The Mexican- delicious blend of Kahlua and dark crème de cocoa, The Belgian – made with Molly’s Irish Cream and Cointreau, or The Spanish – a delightful blend of Tia Maria and Kahlua, just to name a few.

Do yourself a favor and try their Irish Breakfast Roll- two eggs any style, white and black pudding, Irish bacon, and beans served on a grilled roll. Their namesake is also a local favorite- the Mad Hatter Delight has corned beef hash and eggs in a puff pastry served with Mad Hatter Delight sauce. Can’t decide between sweet or savory? Get both with their Sweet and Salty- choice of pancakes, waffles, or French toast served with stewed apples and crispy bacon. On Sundays, Mad Hatter has a more formal brunch atmosphere complete with a chef-manned carving station, omelet bar, and shrimp cocktail. Be sure to make a reservation however as spots fill up fast here!

Leena’s Kitchen
Last but certainly not least is Leena’s Kitchen in Plymouth. Make a reservation as their brunch is Sundays only from 11-3 and is very popular with locals. Their weekly rotation of donut specials is a real treat. The Nutter Butter -peanut butter cake donut topped with peanut butter icing and nutter butter crisp, is to die for. They have an extensive brunch menu with delicious frittatas, breakfast pizzas, and a very yummy pork hash eggs benedict.

Add spirit to your breakfast here with their well-crafted cocktails. Though not your usual morning drink, the Spicy Sicilian pairs well with savory breakfasts – this fun blend of chili-infused limoncello, house vodka, freshly squeezed lemon, Cointreau, and simple syrup is topped with red pepper and strawberry dust for a fancy treat.
