Spiced Rum / Blanco Agave Spirit

Be the neighborhood hero and share some locally made spiced rum while shoveling that wet, heavy snow! It will surely provide the vitality and burst of warm energy needed to get you through the day until you can cozy up by the wood stove.

Distillery 43 opened just over a year ago in Bridgewater and was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream for four friends. A silver lining of the COVID-19 pandemic was they finally had the time, vision, and energy to turn the dream of opening a distillery into a reality. Distillery 43 distills its spirits the tried-and-true way, sourcing local ingredients, focusing on creating hand-made small batch, innovative spirits, while supporting their local business community in the process. For example, one of the most important ingredients in distilling is quality water, and Distillery 43 sources its water from Simpson Springs, a small business that provides natural spring water in Easton.

The Distillery’s best seller and most popular offering is the Spiced Rum, which uses locally sourced white oak from the Ashley Homestead in Freetown. The white oak is cut and processed into staves, then charred onsite at the distillery, and finally added to the rum, which is contained in stainless steel barrels. Because the spiced rum obtains most of its color and flavor from a special blend of steeped spices, in addition to the charred oak and the overall aging process (up to six months), it drinks like a smooth bourbon with subtle hints of cinnamon, vanilla, clove and allspice, with no other additives or preservatives, separating Distillery 43 from the commercial distributors.

Distillery 43 also offers a Blanco Agave Spirit, referred to as “New England Tequila”. It is made from 100 percent blue agave, but since it is not made in Mexico, it can’t technically be called tequila. This “tequila” has a great clean, neutral profile because of the cool climate in New England—great as a neutral mixer for margaritas, palomas, or just a tequila soda.

Look for Distillery 43’s ever-expanding list of package stores and restaurants where its spirits are sold and mix some of the Spiced Rum with some Hornstra eggnog and a bit of cinnamon and nutmeg for a spiked Christmas eggnog cocktail!
